Nirupama Subramanian

Nirupama Subramanian is Resident Editor of  The Indian Express, Chandigarh, and the newspaper’s National Editor responsible for news coverage of J&K, Punjab, Himachal and Haryana.

In a career of over three decades in print journalism, Nirupama has also worked at the Times of India, The Hindu, Sunday Observer and India Today. She has extensive experience of covering South Asia. She reported from Sri Lanka for seven years, and from Pakistan for four years. Kashmir is her current obsession. For her coverage from Pakistan, Nirupama won the Prem Bhatia award for Best Political Reporting in 2008 and the Chameli Devi Jain award for best woman journalist in 2009. Nirupama is also a member of Track II initiatives on India-Pakistan. As Nieman Fellow (2003) at Harvard University, she wrote Sri Lanka: Voices from a War Zone, published by Penguin in 2005. Nirupama is an alumna of the Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University, and St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
